Patrick Doran's "Canadian Pacific Railway" pg 101 has 5569 with the
bay windows plus the closed side window as per later practice but the
three end cupola windows are stil present. It should be noted CP's
wood vans were originally built with three side windows with some
vans modified with the window closest to the cupola rebuilt or
possibly built (circa 1911) with the bay extensions. These were
later removed and the window furthest from the cupola filled in.
Interesting to note that at least some of the vans did survive the
renumbering from 4 to 6 digits (circa 1913 I believe) as shown in
Ray's link shown below. If the numbering suggest that all vans in
this series (at least 5569 to 6172) were so equipped this was a
common van design. 436468 likely originally was 6468 so the number
of vans could be much larger. A more likely scenario might be that
vans were so equipped as repairs were done.
The CP Historical Society Document Files might have more info.
(CP1927 MP14 shows cars but nothing on the bay windows so it appears
they were all long gone by that time except one van [435103] shows
10" wider than the others. PBB)
