Sometimes we try too hard to match tuscan (boxcar) red. I used to use
Canadian Tire red oxide primer but they changed it to a more brown colour
years ago. Box cars weather quickly and the colour changes a lot.
I have a colour slide of three CN 40 foot box cars together in the early
60s. One was quite fresh in the CN noodle. The second had been painted a
few
years while the third, still in Maple Leaf had not been painted in 20 or
more years. The difference in the three paint colours was quite dramatic.
I
guess my suggestion would be to experiment but don't get too concerned
trying to duplicate box car red.
