I can't make out the lettering how much it's blown up. However if it says
Midwest Express then it's a re-creation. Some of the people are definitely
wearing 1950 suits (fan trips used to be dressy!) and carrying cameras. If
anyone has the CRHA Bulletin (predecessor of Canadian Rail) from 1951 there
could be mention of this trip. Fred Angus or Ron Ritchie should remember it.

Derek, two suggestions. One is that the sponsors of the excursion may have
named it the "Train of Yesterday." Possibly that is what's written on the
drumhead which is too grainy to read. On
I agree it's hard to tell what train it is from the photo. Is
there anything in the photo that can confirm the date?
If I blow the image up there's a point where the drumhead suggests
something like "Midwest" and a word under that - Midwest Express? Yeah, I
know I'm pushing it!
What I was thinking is that there was a train that ran from Montreal through
Calumet all the way to Duluth along the Lake Superior south short via SOO
and DSS&A lines. I wasn't aware that the train had a name. I looked
through several timetables and I couldn't see any name given to the train.
Sounds like more theories are needed.
