Why are there CN locomotives going through downtown Kamloops?
Sometimes they are in consists with CP locomotives.
The reason you see CN trains in Kamloops is because of track sharing
agreements in the Fraser Canyon. All trains going up the canyon use
CP's lines (steeper grade) and going down use CN's lines (lesser
grade). They share the lines till Kamloops where the CN trains branch
off to the North Shore and head up toward Jasper.
Another, usually when the grain trains go by, I usually see "CPWX"
on the sides of certain grain cars... for a while I have been seeing
the "WX" painted out... seemingly since April.
The "WX" refers to the Canadian Wheat Board which means they're
government owned. Usually a repaint of the reporting mark means a new
owner. I wonder if perhaps the wheat board is releasing parts of their
fleet back to full CP (and CN) ownership?
