Ok Rob Ive read most of those postings. I truly enjoyed the reading. Were
you able to produce a document which would put all of this together in
proper sequence in one text. If not Ill have to go back to the thread and
make it up as the postings were done.
I live one hour north east of Montreal. I have no access to such
information.
I would also assume that Soo freight ended up in Moose Jaw and beyond as was
the case in Winnipeg. After all The Soo Line was the CPR arm into the US in
those days was it not? Or may be Winnipeg was the place for all Soo Freight
into Canada and Portal the entry point for passenger trains only. Dunno!
At both Portal, and North Portal there are two yards in line with each other
The Canadian yard is much larger and has a Y to turn locos. The Portal ND
yard is somewhat smaller but it had a turn table and a small engine house.
Probably for that yard switcher. The Google Earth photo shows traces of them
but it seems they have been removed as the area is fuzzy and appears covered
with weeds.

Some years ago CPR and Soo Line operated the Soo Dominion/Mountaineer
and the Winnipeger (SOO 89-90 CPR 109 & 110) across the border &
then CP.1 & C.P.2 to Vancouver
Ref. Patrick Dorin's book on the Soo Line, Pages 81 & 190
Does anyone have any information on the procedure when going from one
country to the other. How far did CPR locos go in the US and Vice-
versa. Or did they switch locos at Noyes or Portal. Was freight
handled in the same manner?
Are there any pictures of mixed consists around?
Did Soo Line locos make it to Vancouver in the fifties and sixties?
