I should have read the question better. Telling where CN cars went when
the cars asked about were CP doesn't properly answer the question. Last
use of CP box cars from our local elevator was in 1977. Does anyone know
when the last box cars went out of Port McNicoll?

Wheat Kings by Greg McDonnell, 1996 was the last year for grain boxcars
on CP. Of course, these cars were unloaded at Thunder Bay. Boxcars
were retained in grain service on certain branchlines as the track was

I recall visiting Inglis Man. which is the last town on the Russell
Sub. If I recall correctly, the elevator track had 56lb. rail. Also
interesting was the rails right near the-end-of track marker. All of
these rails were manufactured in the mid 1880's. I suspect that they
were re-laid there from the original mainline! This subdivision has
disapeared along with the 40' boxcars, but the 5 grain elevators in town
have been preserved and are in the process of being restored.
