I believe this last statement is in error. It would appear that the
CPR MOUNT cars were first assigned to this train in 1933 when the wood
cars CURZON and FERNIE were returned to the Soo Line.
In a discussion about the two leased Soo cars, Doug Phillips made
the following statements:
"For some reason, until 1932, any passenger cars used in a joint
international service between Canada and the states had to be
manufactured in the US."
"In early 1933 three CPR "Mount" series cars were then assigned to the
"Redwing". MOUNT HUBER, MOUNT KILPATRICK and MOUNT PALLISER."
I would assume that only two of these three were assigned ant any one
time.
I find it interesting that this list has been able to track the
complete car assignments for this train, at least for the compartment
obs. cars:
1926-1933 Soo Line CURZON and FERNIE lettered Boston & Montreal;
1933-1951 CPR MOUNT HUBER, MOUNT KILPATRICK and MOUNT PALLISER;
Then the CPR LAKE cars, and finally the CPR CAPE cars. Impressive.
