I surfed thru the website of Canadian Model trains to see the color
pictures of the up-coming Proto models and noted that the two maroon
and grey RS-10 units seemed to have their short hoods installed on
the wrong models. The script #8590 had a narrow band on the short
hood and the block unit (8596) had a large band that should be on the
script version. I went thru my neg collection and noted that the CP
#8596 had a dual sealed beam headlight system and also a foot long or
so exhaust extension above the normal exhaust stack. I am in the
process of going thru the rest of the negs in my collection of CP RS-
10s and will see which units had sealed beams and which had
the "pieplate" large headlight assembly. All had frame mount bells. The
CP #8470 goes down as the worst chop-nose job ever with the short
hood cut down but the controls still set up for long hood
operation. It was used in St Luc at the hump pull down along with a
few chopped CP RS-3's They were a real unique and strange looking
engine.
It would appear that the models shown on Canadian Models website are
test units and hopefully the store stock will have some of the
corrections that modelers have noted fixed.
