In late 2012 and early 2013 CP purchased 70 GP20C-ECO locomotives from Progress Rail with another 80 on order. They utilize several major components from GP7u and GP9u locos.

They will probably replace some of the aging GP38ACs and GP38-2s in yard and branch line service.

Four units were working in the Red Deer area in April & May 2014 and they are seen both in the yards and on trains to Prentiss (polyethylene plant) and Stettler carrying polyethylene pellets, anhydrous ammonia & liquefied petroleum products.

Enjoy.
