Other than the obvious produce reefers from California and Florida,
what other U.S. reefers would typically be seen in eastern Canada say
in the late 1950s? I was wondering about U.S. meat reefers in
particular.
There are numerous photos taken in the 1950s that show many U.S. meat reefers
being handled into northern VT and NH via the CPR's Vermont line. Presumably
these cars were routed from the U.S. Midwest through Canada and back into the
U.S. via the Newport, VT gateway. I'm not sure if the CNR also handled much
U.S. meat this way via it's through freights with the CV and GT(NEL). For
whatever reason the CPR freights (three each way during that time period) down
the ex-B&M Connecticut River Valley line to White River Junction, VT seem to
have been much more extensively photographed, especially in color, if the
number of photos published in the various books covering that region are any
indication. So it seems to me that CPR modelers could justify any U.S. meat
reefer moving in a through freight through southern ON and PQ.
