If they were rebuilds, where did they come from? If you notice, they have only
8 "panels" per side not the usual 10 panels that all 40' steel boxcars have.

The records on these cars are somewhat confused. CP's 1970 equipment data
book does indicate the cars were built new in 1958. Having said that, other
records indicate these cars were rebuilt. The number series itself and,
thus, equipment register entries do not necessarily indicate the cars were
built new since stockcars converted from boxcars were almost invariably
renumbered. I do agree that folio sheets would probably provide the most
accurate information if anyone has the sheet for this particular series.
One possible explanation for all the confusion might be an order changed in
mid-stream. For instance, the cars might have been originally ordered as
boxcars but prior to final production the order was changed to stock cars.
