I recently spotted a VH T-1a in HO for sale on the Brass Trains website, and it
caught my eye for the unusual boiler color. The model had been custom painted
subsequent to the amputation of its rear sand dome, and the boiler had been
done in grey...not the usual "passenger" grey found on T-1b and T-ic
locomotives, but a dark, bluish grey, almost indistinguishable from the black
surrounding areas.
What's the story with this color? I've never seen reference to it before, and
was wondering when/where it was applied, and how widespread its application
was. TIA for any info received....
