October-1959 "Atlantic Limited" Trains #41 and #42 Go All Stainless-Steel Two
Scenic-Dome cars.
By the end of October 1959, the "Atlantic Limited" commenced being an
all-stainless train on the Montreal-Saint John route except for the streamlined
light-weight express, manned postal express cars. Stainless-steel consists:
3000 series Baggage-dormintory car on each train; stainless-steel 100 series
"Deluxe" coaches, Stainless-steel "Skyline" scenic-dome Buffet-Parlor consist,
instead of half "Deluxe" coach and buffet-dinette, a stainless-steel Dining
Room car, stainless-steel "Chateau" series Duplex-Roomette sleepers,
stainless-steel "Manor" series sleepers and the end of train "Park" series
Scenic-Dome Mural Lounge, compartment, Bedroom, Drawing Room sleeper. The
normal consist of cars out of Saint John around 16 cars; with more head-end
express and other added at McAdam.
During January of 1960 I sailed on CP's 25,500 ton "Empress of England" from
West St. John to New York. The liner had arrrived a few days earlier from
Liverpool, Eng. The "Empress" was enroute to New York for positioning for a
series of West Indies-South America cruises; when the cruise schedule was
through sailing New York-Liverpool direct. CP "Empress" boat train a few days
earlier and a mail & express train from West. St. John-Montreal. This trip was
part of a tour to CP facilities beginning at
Montreal-Toronto-Winnipeg-Regina-Moose Jaw, Calgary-Vancouver, Vancouver Island
trip and return. Met a number of CP passenger Traffic people onboard the ship
from Montreal, including Ed Barge of CP passenger services from Saint John.
The-cross-Canada trip will not be included in Part # 10. The next Post will
cover CP again in New Brunswick. If others interested in the Trans-Canada trip

On one trip to CP at McAdam, N.B. observed new MLW/Alco RS-12 8035. A beauty in
ht unit's Tuscan Red-Gray-Blaci & Yellow scheme. The brand new unit was
assigned to switching on the south side of the station-First observation was
during the evening.
