Trip From Moncton, N.B. To CP At Saint John, N.B.
Union Station(Morning)
Saint John, N.B.
May 23, 1964(Includes Trip on CPR's "Bay of Fundy Steamship Service" -"Princes
of Acadia" to Digby, N.S.-observing subsidiary Dominion Atlantic
Operations.(Note:) When the "Princess of Acadia"(1st) made her debut April of
1963 she was painted pure "White" later on repainted back to Black & White as
when built in Scotland as the "Princess of Nanaimo" for CPR's B.C.C.S West
Coast service.

sleeper, 39645-Freight Refer-ice storage for non-mechanical air-condittioned

Arrived with a Total-10 cars(Note: cars came off at McAdam.)
Eastend of Station:
Subsidiary Smith Transport tractor-#342 and Trailer # 33294 meeting train #42
to take on express traffic destined for eastern New Brunswick points, and
through to Halifax via highway, plus connection likely at Moncton for Prince
Edward Island.
Boarded CP's "Princess of Acadia" for 1100 sailing to Digby, N.S. -passenger
trafic from "Atlantic Limited" express, cartage, baggage and automobile traffic
coming aboard and mail.
Remarks: Princess of Acadia's Purser and holding the same position on the
former "Princess Helene" came from Canadian Pacific Steamship's Trans-Atlantic
service from the "Empress of Australia" (1st) or the "Empress of
Australia"(2nd).
The former Princess Helene at times had to be assisted out of her pier by a
tug, while the "Acadia" was retrofitted later with a Bow Thruster. One of the
tugs assisting the "Helene" came from Canadian Pacific subsidiary Quebec
Salvage & Wrecking Co. under the name "Gopher" ended up at Saint John, N.B
under new owners renamed "Ocean King". CP had another Eastern Canada Tug
operation known as "Foundation Maritime". The Tug "Gopher" was constructed in
the UK and was involved in World War # 1.
Arriving At Digby, Nova Scotia.
CP's 6,800 ton "Princess of Acadia" arrived at Digby Wharf at 1400-on the
freight car tracks 14 box cars on the wharf,
CP Express Pick-up truck # 1512 from Yarmouth with traffic for the "Acadia" and
westbound load for the ship.
Subsidiary Smith Transport Tractor # 130 and trailer # 31926 traffic for
Annapolis Valley points & likely to Halifax
Smith Transport Tractor #480 with trailer # 31942 unloding and loading for
points unknown.

"Evangeline Dayliner" whistling eastbound arriving from Yarmouth for Halifax;
first stopped at Digby station and then backed down to the wharf close to
ships-side RDC-1 9059. After discharging passengers and boarding passengers
Unit 9059 pulled away up to the main-line and on its way to Annapolis Valley
destinations and terminating at Halifax.
About an hour late the westbound "Evangeline Dayliner" RDC-1 9058 arrived Digby
fom Halifax, switching over from the main-line to the Wharf track and pulling
into almost along ships-side. A few minutes later departing up to the
main-line, and arriving at Digby station. Soon afterwards 9058 was on the last
leg of her 216 mile run to Yarmouth. Heavy week-end traffic 9058-9059 ran
together Fri. & Suns. at times Saturdays with trains in the opposite direction
operating as conventional trains, now diesels powered by SW1200RS units of the
8100 series.
At 1700 the "Princess of Acadia" gave three blasts from her whistle, and
backing away from the terminal, plus another three sounds of her whistle
outbound out of Digby towards Digby Gut and open sea back to Saint John
arriving at 2000. As the ship ties up, always a CPR transfer around 2010 from
Bay Shore Yard and Lancaster on the west side passes by and on track # 7
outside (Cars from afternoon arrival off freight #908 fom Montreal) the Union
Station train shed to Island Yard at East St. John Interchange, usuly with 30
cars.
Soon afterwards the MLW/Alco F2 passenger units would sound the whistle as it
backs to Union Station from the West-side and coupling onto westbound Saint
John-Montreal train # 41 "Atlantic Limited" that particular evening the same
units and consist that arrived from west in the morning. Westbound 2100
departure.
