Frank,
acording to the Diesel Bible (Dean & Hanna) The Winnipeg Beach Sub was
dieselised in 1960 with a SW1200RS (8161-8171 were assigned to
Winnipeg in '60) so if Passenger service co-existed with diesel
powered freight it would only be for a matter of weeks/months...
Lawrence Stucky's "Canadian Pacific in Manitoba Vol. 1" has a 1954
photo of train 111 taken a mile south of Gimli that gives a good idea
of a typical branchline passenger consist, unfortunetly he was murky
about when service ended

You mention not having seen any pax trains with diesels on them; did
diesel-hauled freights operate there during the time steam-hauled pax
were running? Just curious, as to whether I could with reasonable
likelihood have both steam and diesel present on an eventual layout.
Cheers, Frank
