Thank you Lance for forwarding Chris Rolling's informative report. The
existential poetry happening now are the shouts and chants in the
street, punctuated by injuries and deaths. Yes we need to pay
attention, and it is a challenge to do so without falling into an
immobilizing despair, especially if one is not Haitian and not even
there enduring this utter chaos. Anyone who murmurs "Why don't they..."
should be put into the corner with a dunce cap. (They were still doing
that when I was a little school kid.)
It does seem to be the case that none of the "Great Powers" seem to
be ready to move forward with help toward solutions. There seems to be
no pressing commercial benefit to do so, especially since the outcome is
most apt to be four wheels hopelessly stuck in a creek somewhere and no
access to cell phone contacts.
It will be helpful to read thoughts on this list serve, but we all
know that entails many sorts of difficulties.
