Hi all (again),
I have pasted below an interesting excerpt from a flyer about Latin Dance
classes. It is an interesting reflection given Bert's old controversial
statement that went something like;
The man must lead and the woman follow but the masculine serves the
feminine.
It's no wonder guys are confused about whether to open doors for women and
women are confused about why guys treat them badly. I think we've gone too
far with our political correctness and over-feminist ways.
Now I'm a staunch feminist from way back and there was a time when I did
grow my armpit hair, [I'm slightly uncomfortable sharing that] but, after
almost 20 years in a corporate job, I looked back and saw how masculine I
had become, working in a mans world, competing with men for jobs, even
having to alter my speech so that I would be heard better in business
meetings, it had big payoffs but even bigger costs.
Its my firm belief that the world wide uprising of partner dancing, is on
some level, trying to get back the balance between men and women. To bring
out more femininity in women and a respectful masculinity in men. Now you
may scoff at this but check out what happens when you dance with a partner
. Someone has to take the lead and someone must follow
. The woman takes on a more accepting role
. She's required to stop thinking a million miles and hour and allow
someone to do something for her!
. The man is allowed to take care of the woman, he's given permission
(by the nature of the dance) to give her a treat on the dance floor, to woo
her, to be cheeky with her, to have fun with her
The result is fantastic, we stop talking and start listening, really
listening, with our bodies and more importantly our hearts. We go from
being thinking machines to feeling ones and we really get in touch
(literally) with other human beings.
The thing I love about dancing with a partner is what it does for my soul, I
am gentler, more patient, more understanding of their role and appreciative
of the thought they put into their dance. I cherish every dance I have, it
allows me to be human and imperfect.
We can easily dance on our own, that's not such a great challenge, but to
really connect with another human being, allow them to do something for us
and accept them as they are, complete with flaws.... well that does
something wonderful for us all.
Get out there and dance,! Allow someone to do something nice for you & do
something nice for another human being
