I think this is a very good description that you make.

I have been thinking lately that every encounter with another person is cross-cultural to some degree, but the bigger the difference the more possibility for more connection with hidden parts of ourselves, which is what I think you describe, or more possibility for systemic loyalty and blame, judgement, feelings of difference etc. I wonder how the context effects the outcome. I presume you went to support people and your new neurological connections were part of the result of this attitude.

I like to say in workshops where there is a large cultural difference, that we may be different, but we are all sons or daughters.
