Karadzic may have done great evil with a good conscience. That is quite
different from saying in his own mind he was doing good with a good

what is evil?" This vacuum leads to a misperception that "good and evil"
are relative distinctions the same as "good and bad conscience."
I think we should be very careful before assuming that Karadzic's disguise
as an energy healer indicates he reformed and devoted himself to
compensating or atoning for the damage he caused. The siege of Sarajevo and
the massacre at Srebrinica were war crimes. The known facts point to
Karadzic's guilt for the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians and the
destruction of Sarajevo's multi-ethnic and tolerant urban culture. His
record of being a phony doctor predates his career as war criminal. He may
have simply been living a life of deceit to avoid responsibility for his
crimes.
I have had to look closely at the distinction between "good and bad
conscience" and "good and evil behavior." What I have seen forms the
opinion that certain acts, such as murder and massacres are evil. In these
cases, it is within the rights of the community to judge and punish the
perpetrators.

This is a man directly responsible for one of the worst atrocities during
that war - a massacre in Srebrenica in which at least 7 000 civilians,
Muslim men and boys were killed in a couple of days, and also directly
responsible for the 3,5 year long siege of Sarajevo, during which many
children perished or lost their parents.
Just your ordinary healer, I guess, guided by his group's conscience.
He can and should be trialed, but can he be judged?
