| The 2022 Colorado Legislature Is In Session
|
|
|
570 bills have been introduced in the Colorado State Legislature so far this
year. Bills addressing the proposed Front Range Passenger Rail system, Free RTD
rides during Ozone Season and State Procurement "Equity" were introduced last
week.

Front Range Passenger Rail
SB176 launches the boondoggle that will be the Front Range Passenger Rail
system. $9 million will get things started on the 190-mile rail corridor
connecting the population centers along the front range, including
redevelopment of the Burnham Yard rail site in Denver and feasibility plans for
the rest of the project. We OPPOSE this waste of taxpayer dollars that will
benefit a small fraction of Colorado residents.

Free RTD Rides
SB180 creates the ozone season transit grant program in the Colorado energy
office. The program provides grants to RTD in order to provide free transit
services for at least 30 days during ozone season (June through August). It is
a thinly-veiled attempt to shore up the failing RTD system in the name of ozone
reduction. We OPPOSE this $50 million waste of taxpayer funds. |

State Procurement Equity Program
SB163 is a $2 million program that will attempt to aid "underutilized
businesses" in the process of winning government contracts. While noble in its
intent, this bill is ripe for abuse and cronyism and provides no protections
for taxpayers in getting the most for their dollars. It violates the principles
of Equal Protection and Fiscal Responsibility. We OPPOSE this bill.

Sadly, Freedom Isn't Free
While we have several volunteers who give generously of their time, we also
have about $3,000/year in bill tracking software and web development expenses.
Please donate if you're able so we can continue to hold our legislators
accountable.
