Interesting problem to have.  I didn't know your imac was going to need a 
wireless connection.

You can try booting from the CD, and using Disk First Aid on the mac...

if not, then boot the mac holding down the shift key...that will boot with 
extensions off. then you can go in and disable the airport extensions, reboot, 
and see if that's what is truly causing your problem.

If you have Norton Utilities for mac, that would be a very good thing.

Last ditch: reinstall the OS

 As to your last post, holding down the power button only powers the mac 
off...you didn't ask how to make the iMac STOP, you asked for a boot remedy...
