Bingo Ray, Thanks for the heads up..that’s the 1st time I’ve run into those plugs for an HD..I thought those were more to cover holes for a feature on a different model. I also wasn’t aware they’d come out and more importantly go back in so easily. Didn’t want to wind up with 2 ‘holes’ along the front of the laptop if I was wrong. I did the google and hp searches. All I found was basic stuff the hp site shows 2 links to change the DVD. But none for the hd. Google only leads to the hp site or to links to buy the manual. It's a $50 10 year old or there abouts laptop. Works great but the hd overheated when I ran SpinRite on it. Figured I'd replace the drive just ti be safe. It does have some holes with the rubber plugs on the front. I'll pull those tomorrow. I searched for 4000 series also. But those drives are looking different than this setup. Some OLDER ones (compaq) had screws beneath the keyboard. If there's a removable cover from the HD compartment, check to see if there's any screws (or screw-sized holes that may have plugs in them) and remove them. I didn't find any info online...yet. But i'd utilize Google and the HP Site for any manuals that are out there. hope that helps. -- Ray -- _____ From: Bruce Eddy <beddy1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: computertalkshop@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Mon, November 8, 2010 9:17:51 PM Subject: [CTS] hard drive replacement Anyone tell me how to remove an HDD from a Pavilion laptop? I removed the one screw showing. But the drive still appears to be locked in by ‘something’?? HP site is useless. Nowhere on the site can I find the removal steps for this model. The only has 1 screw showing on the right side of drive. Model is HP Pavilion ze4427wm. Thanks Bruce
