Did you try a different channel when that happened? I just set up a Linksys
for a guy and his neighbor's unknown brand was connecting - that was the
default channel 6 - brought it to 10 to give some frequency split and no
more problems for either of them.

Sometimes I did not have a connection at all but was picking up neighbors
wireless. Don't remember being kicked off once connected. It was setting he
cryptic keys why I had the problem and it seemed so straight forward but
wasn't.
. It got to the point I was grabbing the wrong wireless mouse trying to
set this up. LOL

Is it every two minutes you get kicked out?

It took me two hours but finally I have it encrypted and locked down.
Of course I kept booting myself off the net. I had to keep setting the mac
and finding my way around each time ....

I want to keep myself protected as best as possible.

Turn on MAC filtering, add all your MAC adresses to allow these PC's
to connect only. Turn off DHCP and assign IP address manually. Turn of SSID
broadcast but that will not matter much. Network Stumbler will still find
it. Change the password on the WAP to something strong, change the WAP name.
For my Smart Display to work, I had to enable SSID broadcast. More expensive
WAP's will alow you to turn down the power. Put the WAP in the middle of the
house as the range is 100-150ft.

If you are going to buy a new one Get 802.11g with WPA.

I would suggest that you ensure that the encryption is turned on
and uses a random or unique key. If you can see your neighbor's wireless,
they can see yours. If someone can see your wireless router and there is no
encryption they can basically have a look at your PCs and/or can piggy back
on your Internet connection if you are using a cable or broadband
connection. There are some unscrupulous types that drive around looking for
wireless connections that they can exploit. I had zonealarm on all of my
PCs before I went wireless and with adding the IP of the wireless router as
a trusted zone I have had no problems. I like the added layer of
protection - Defense In Depth.

I read through all of the zone alarm and this has to do with the
router only I think. When I set up my lap top I was picking up a neighbor's
wireless signal. My Microsoft technician friend is coming over wed night
and he will fix the settings for me. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sounds like a redundancy that might cause problems - you should
probably check zonealram.com under support as I think they either have a doc
or tutorial there unless the help in ZA is enough. Ads?

Zone alarm is already on both computers. I just need to know
how to set up the security on both so no one uses my adsl .

Why the need for the Zonealarm - your router should include
a firewall already.

I just got a wireless laptop for Christmas and have a
D-Link Wireless Broadband Router. I have both set up and working. My home
puter is running windows 98 and the lap top is running XP. What I am
having problems with is setting my wan settings so my broadband on my laptop
and home puter is safe. I am running zone alarm pro on both computers.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
