The backup program just knows about the files. I would get the drives, setup the raid [I suggest Raid 5], then copy the files from your stripped raid to your RAID 5, then repurpose your old drives. 500GB drives are going for $65 on newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073&nm_mc=EMC-IG NEFL102308&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL102308-_-HardDrives-_-L0C-_-22136073 --Peter From: computertalkshop-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:computertalkshop-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jack Owens Sent: Thursday, October 23, 2008 6:29 PM To: computertalkshop@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [CTS] RAID Change I am using a stripped RAID using 2 SATA HDs on one of my machines for program and data storage. I boot off of an IDE drive and do not boot off of the RAID. I set it up for performance and didn't really see any improvement. Now, I think that one of the HDs is going bad. I am doing a backup on the drive using XP Pro's native backup program as I type the email. I was thinking of buying new HDs, but instead of setting up the RAID for performance, mirror the drives for redundancy. Does anyone know if XP's native backup could restore to my RAID if I changed my RAID configuration from stripped to mirrored? Would the backup program even know? Thanks.
