Jackie, modding, or modifying cases and other computer components is a hobby all it's own.
If you are asking if you can mod your drive the answer is yes. After modding it may work for 10 secs or 10 years. For the most part people that have done this have used drives that were headed south anyway so if the experiment failed they had little to lose.
The drive from WD (third link down) with the window has been manufactured in clean room conditions which would be difficult to duplicate in your home workshop. If you look at the price ($350 for 150 GB) you can see that it's an expensive toy.
If you want to try it yourself I would start at Overclockers.com and research drive modding.
You'll need some tools which you won't find at the 98 Cent Store too ??
All in all, it could be an expensive project no matter which route you take. Buy or build........ that is the question ?
Let us know which route you take !
Have fun !

Dremel tools and Lexan (and destroy your valuable data) to get a
clear window in your hard drive. Western Digital has releaseRaptor
    X 150GB SATAd the hard drive. 10,000 RPM, 4.6ms seek time, 16MB
buffer, and, yes, a clear window so you can see what's going on
inside. Made out of a special polycarbonate lens with an
ESD-dissipative coating, the lens is designed to let case modders
and their groupies see the drive platters and heads without
    sacrificing data integrity."
