Hello Gardeners!
Shorty Towne delivered compost this afternoon. New this year, we had him
leave 2 piles- one in back and one in front so that all gardeners have
easier access to it.
From Grow Compost of Vermont's website, here's why we hope you will add
lots to your garden plot: "Using good quality compost brings a multitude of
benefits to your gardening efforts and often eliminates the need for
synthetic fertilizers. Adding compost to soils builds organic matter
(humus) while contributing nutrients and beneficial microbes to the soil
structure. Compost increases water retention in sandy soils and drainage in
clay soils. It provides soil with minerals, potassium, nitrogen and folic
acids in a form readily available to your plants. Adding organic nutrients
and matter nourishes the existing microbes in soil, and active microbes
build a long-lasting supply of nutrients to feed plant roots."
Don't be shy or worry about taking more than your share! We will get more
when this batch is gone.
Admittedly, it is heavy to move whether you use a wheelbarrow or buckets.
You can, however, make great progress with multiple trips and a smaller
bucket. If you need assistance getting compost to your plot, please let us
know! And enjoy the wider paths which will now accommodate a wheelbarrow.
