| STATELESSNESS RETREAT AND UNHCR ANNUAL CONSULTATIONS WITH NGOs |
|
|
|
| From June 11 - 16, Red ANA was in Geneva, Switzerland to participate in the
Statelessness Retreat and the UNHCR Annual Consultations with NGOs. In both
events, Red ANA had an opportunity to present its work, discuss further actions
towards the eradication of statelessness, and advocate for the need to address
statelessness in the Americas. |

| STATELESSNESS ACADEMIC WORKSHOP |
|
|
|
| On June 5th, Red ANA participated in the Statelessness Academic Workshop
organized by the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion in collaboration with
New York University's Center for Global Affairs and Open Society Justice
Initiative. The event explored how scholars have approached statelessness in
the past and how we can engage with statelessness in a multidisciplinary way

| iNTERNATIONAL MOBILITY CONFERENCE |
|
|
|
| On May 26, the Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS) and the
Argentinian Commission for Migrants and Refugees (CAREF) cohosted a public
conference about the current challenges for human rights in the Americas in the
context of international mobility. The event included a presentation by IACHR's
Commissioner Margarette May Macaulay and the presentation of the report Born in
the Americas: The Promise and Practice of Nationality Laws in Brazil, Chile and
Colombia by Red ANA Steering Committee members David Baluarte and Liliana
Gamboa. |

| CHILE RECONOCE |
|
|
|
| Last May, the report of the Chile Reconoce project took place in Santiago,
Chile with the presence of President Michelle Bachelet and representatives of
the National Human Rights Institute, Diego Portales University, Alberto Hurtado
University, Jesuit Migrant Service, and UNHCR. This project addresses the
situation of persons at risk of statelessness and aims at obtaining their

| On May 2, the Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS) and the Argentinian
Commission for Migrants and Refugees (CAREF) presented a Webinar about
statelessness in Argentina that addressed the recently adopted legislative
changes regarding migration and the cases of statelessness in that country. If

On June 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Wrokship presented a Webinar
about statelessness in Costa Rica that discussed the creation and operation of
the Statelessness Determination Procedure in the country and the benefits and

| Understanding Statelessness edited by Tendayi Bloom, Katherine Tonkiss, and
Phillip Cole was recently published by Routledge. This book offers a deep
examination of statelessness from a theoretical, legal, and political approach.

and Inclusion is now available. This report explores the urgency of and
