Transnational scientific mobility can be understood as the movement of
scientists, Professors, researchers, post-doctorates and students across
national boarders and international institutions, laboratories, universities,
think-tanks and research centers. It has become a fundamental aspect for
analysis both because the mobility of scientists is an indivisible part of an
academic and scientific careers that and because it deals with the production
of knowledge and information, which are key resources for economic and social
growth in today’s world.
Based on this assumption we raise some questions to guide our symposium: are
international researchers different from migrants? What are the political and
social implications of the “new mobilities paradigm” to understanding
scientific mobility? What does it mean be a mobile researcher nowadays? Do
markers of difference – such as gender, class, race/ethnicity or nationality –
shape transnational researcher mobility? What are the effects of transnational
scientific mobility on knowledge production and circulation? Do geopolitical
hierarchies play a role in transnational scientific mobility? Should nation
states regulate transnational scientific mobility through special policies? How
does neoliberalism policies influences on scientific mobility? Does
postcolonial dynamics are present on transactional scientific mobility schemes?

Mobilidade científica transnacional pode ser entendida como o movimento de
cientistas, Professores/as, pesquisadores/as, investigadores/as,
pós-doutorandos/as e estudantes através de fronteiras nacionais e institutos,
laboratórios, universidades e centros de investigação internacional. Tornou-se
uma categoria fundamental de análise tanto porque a mobilidade internacional é,
atualmente, parte indissociável da carreira acadêmica e científica, como porque
diz respeito a produção de conhecimento e informação, recursos fundamentais
para o crescimento econômico e social do mundo hoje em dia.
A partir dessas ideias algumas questões são levantadas para guiar nosso
simpósio: cientistas e investigadores/as são diferentes de imigrantes comuns?
Quais as implicações sociais e políticas do “novo paradigma de mobilidade” para
pensar a mobilidade científica? Como marcadores de diferenças – gênero, raça,
classe ou nacionalidade – moldam a mobilidade científica internacional? Quais
os efeitos da mobilidade científica internacional na produção e circulação de
conhecimento? As hierarquias geopolíticas também tem um papel na mobilidade
científica transnacional? Os Estados nação deveriam regular a mobilidade
científica transnacional através de políticas especiais? Como as políticas
neoliberais influenciam a mobilidade científica? As dinâmicas de poder
pós-coloniais estão presentes nas experiências de mobilidade científica
transnacionais?
