NEWS FROM MIGRATION EU EXPERTISE:
April-June 2018
|
|
Dear colleague,
Before the summer break in Europe, we wanted to share with you the main
highlights from these past few months.
We are delighted to share with you once again our 2017 Annual Report that
features figures and facts on our global achievements; analyses of trends at a
regional level; and the perspectives of our team, partners and experts on
different dimensions of migration governance. These insights can offer some
perspective on the future of the Programme and in general, on the role of
capacity building in making migration better.
By reading our dedicated articles, you also have the opportunity to delve into
two topics of great interest – gender and migration and Trafficking in human
beings. The participation of MIEUX for the first time at the European
Development Days offered us a tremendous occasion to reflect upon the nexus
between gender and migration and share with practitioners our lessons learnt
and achievements.
As a platform devoted to the exchange of knowledge and practices, we are happy
to announce the new webpage Knowledge, where you will be able to access our
publications and factsheets as well the interviews of experts and of the MIEUX
team.
Enjoy the reading and happy summer holidays!
Oleg Chirita

THE YEAR OF IMPLEMENTATION
The Annual Report for the year 2017 reflects MIEUX’s evolution by illustrating
how the programme contributes to enhancing migration governance, furthering EU
strategic priorities, and acting as a catalyst for knowledge exchange between
migration experts.

America and the Caribbean and the EU neighbourhood and discusses the importance
of migration policy development during 2017.

EUROPEAN DEVELOPMENT DAYS
|
|
The annual European Development Days (EDD) gathered over 8,000 professionals
from the development sector in Brussels over two days in June. ICMPD/MIEUX
organised the session “Gender in migration policy-making: between protection
and empowerment” presenting concrete examples from MIEUX Actions in Costa Rica,
Madagascar, and Sierra Leone.
Capitalising on MIEUX’s experiences in supporting migration policy-making over
the last 10 years, the session analysed how policy-making links migration and
gender and whether it addresses the needs and aspirations of migrant women and
girls.

TRAFFICKING IN HUMAN BEINGS
During the last week of April, on the occasion of three simultaneous missions
as part of MIEUX Actions in Ghana, Timor-Leste and Thailand, we analysed how
MIEUX and ICMPD are supporting governments around the world to combat
Trafficking in human beings in a 3-part feature.
'Part 1: understanding the context' - describes the context these activities
take place against currents trends as well as the legal and institutional
structures set-up to combat THB in each country.
'Part 2: tailoring support to the realities of different countries' - describes
how MIEUX has adapted the activities and Actions to the situation on the ground.
Part 3: the bigger picture - describes how small-scale capacity building
interventions, such as those supported by MIEUX, are linked with global actions
to combat trafficking.
