| Dear member of the WE EMPOWER community,
Warm greetings from UN Women and the WE EMPOWER – G7 Team. We hope you are able
to cope with the extremely uncertain times. Our thoughts are with those
affected by COVID -19 across the world. The well-being and safety of our
stakeholders and partners are our top priority.
The COVID-19 pandemic is putting an unprecedented and significant strain on the
global economy and public health systems. It is also highlighting, and
magnifying inequalities and the multiple and intersecting forms of
discrimination faced by women and girls. The pandemic has moved beyond a global
health crisis and has morphed into a labour market, social and economic crisis,
posing a serious threat to women’s employment and livelihoods, especially in
precarious informal and non-essential sectors. In this challenging period, we
know that you are all exploring what you can do to help. We would like to share
some resources that have been prepared on mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on
people’s lives and to address the specific risks and vulnerabilities girls and
women face because of the deeply rooted inequalities and stereotypes in society.
Today, United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, released the “Policy
Brief: The Impact of COVID-19 on Women”. This coincides with our own release
today of the “COVID-19 and gender equality: A Call to Action for the Private
Sector” brief. Earlier this week, we collaborated with ILO and UNICEF on two
additional resources on family-friendly policies, and on positive gender roles
in marketing and advertising.
Your actions as business leaders and WEPs champions are important. We therefore
encourage you to explore the recommendations in these resources for your
COVID-19 response. We will continue to share with you opportunities for
dialogue and additional resources as they become available. We hope that you
are keeping safe and well.
Warm regards,Anna FalthManager of the WE EMPOWER – G7 programme |

pandemic of COVID-19 on violence against women and girls. It makes

international organizations and to civil society organizations, in order to
prevent and respond to violence against women and girls, at the onset, during,
