For Tracey, and all others who would like to be able to help their practice
groups deliver quality training, the Professional Development Committee of the
IACP has been at work developing a curriculum for basic training for use by
qualified practitioners. The basic training debuted in a "pilot project" at a
Pre-forum institute in Toronto. The Professional Development Committee will
also present the curriculum at the European Conference in Cork, Ireland, on May
2 and 3. It is not too late to register for this wonderful program. (Check
out the wonderful program at: http://www.acp.ie ;)
Attendees of the Cork program, like the Toronto program, will receive a CD with
PowerPoints and a Training Manual, and are authorized to use and develop the
curriculum provided that they meet the Trainer and Training Standards and share
their edits to the program and their comments about the materials with the
committee. Finally, the conditions of use include requiring trainees to join
IACP.
The committee hopes to both refine and enhance the curriculum this coming year
and will almost certainly present another Pre-Forum Institute in New Orleans.
We hope you can join us in Cork or in New Orleans.

Subject: [CollabLaw] on "becoming" a Collaborative Trainer
Tracey,
"Training", especially in a still new movement, can be exciting and
challenging and risky for both the "trainers" and those seeking training.
It's not really "like" anything else. There are also folks who offer other
trainings in skills that can be of assistance to a Collaborative
practitioner.
But as far as doing actual Collaborative Trainings....
The IACP site offers the Standards for Collaborative Trainings and for
Trainers:
http://www.collaborativepractice.com/_t.asp?M=8
<http://www.collaborativepractice.com/_t.asp?M=8&MS=5&T=New-Ethics>
&MS=5&T=New-Ethics
It also offers a Trainers' Directory:
http://www.collaborativepractice.com/_t.asp?M=8
<http://www.collaborativepractice.com/_t.asp?M=8&MS=7&T=TrainersDir>
&MS=7&T=TrainersDir
and the following advice to consumers:
"The information compiled for this Trainers Directory is designed to help
you and your organization identify trainers and training groups who will
meet your training needs. The information is of necessity quite general and
we suggest that you contact each trainer or training group. A wide variety
of practice and training approaches are available that expand upon or modify
the lawyer-only or full interdisciplinary team model. When choosing a
trainer or training group, it is advisable to have a discussion, including,
but not limited to:
* The practice experience of each trainer
* The structure of their practice group
* Objectives and scope of the trainings offered
* The training philosophy and model or approaches which will be part
of the training
* References to contact
* Outlines to review
The IACP does not endorse any individual trainers or training groups and
does not regulate the delivery of training services. "
InJoy!
