I have been a member of this chat group for the past few months. I find the
discussions most helpful and I am seeking some assistance and guidance on a
couple of issues. By way of background, we are establishing a collaborative
law group in Regina/Moose Jaw area of Saskatchewan. There are approximately
250,000 - 300,000 people who live in this area. We have commitments from 19
prominent family practitioners to go through our training which will take
place in September. We will be training people in both interest based
negotiation and collaborative law. The "launch date" for our organization
is October 1, 2001. By that time, we will have at least 24 trained people
in our group. Our members likely act in 60% of the family law files in our
area and their firms will handle closer to 80-90%. This will give our
collaborative law group very much of a leg up when we get started if we do
it right. Leading members of our family bar are committed to it. "So far
so good".
I am seeking help in two areas, which I now think are vital to us. The
first is marketing and public education. Can we get advice as to the best
approaches for promoting collaborative law. We are in the process of
designing a brochure and will want it widely disseminated. Our membership
fees have permitted us to establish a bit of a marketing budget and we will
are going to be going after funding from our law foundation that might give
us more. We would appreciate, if possible, to get some information about
who are the best people to market to, what do they want to know, and any
general advice. We will market other lawyers and our clientele and specific
people in the "helping professions". How should we promote collaborative
law?
The second question is how do we ensure that people actually practice
collaborative law.? It is one thing for us to go through the training and
approach this with good intentions, but how do we ensure that our members
make sure that they actually practice collaboratively.
