Here is a lesson I hope I have learned -- I realized too late in a
collaborative case this year that my client needed a coach. I missed the signs
during the week or two time slot during which the symptoms were evident and the
case blew up.
I had made the wrong assumptioms about which spouse would be hardest to
work with in the collaborative context---i.e. which spouse would need
non-lawyer coaching support. (In our group the fully staffed case is still not
the norm.)
Having stubbed my toe twice in this regard during the first decade of the
century, I hope I have learned my lesson.
On the bright side, I have gone another collaborative year in which each
and every collaborative case client has paid my fees in full, including the
lady I failed to get coached in time.
Happy New Collaborative Year
