What can you post / say here?
Since its creation in 2000, the listServe has had but one purpose - to
connect those engaged/interested in Collaborative Practice - and one allowed
'topic' - that is, Collaborative Practice. It has run very happily with only 2
'rules':
1- Nobody tells anybody else what they should or should not say here. That
means no discussions about what is 'allowed'. The only 'allowed' recourse to
comments or posts that you 'dislike' is the liberal use of your delete key. ;-)
2- No Spam. That means no direct selling or promotion of ANYTHING. No out of
the blue 'here's a training flyer', no 'my latest blog link', no
'event/book/film/interview/appearance announcement'. That said..... anyone is
welcome, even encouraged, to share information about such events or products or
trainings or services AS PART OF A GENUINE CONTRIBUTION TO A RELEVANT
DISCUSSION. NOTE: Since the beginning, announcements by local practice
groups/organizations that they are sponsoring a BASIC CP training have been
expressly allowed. Again, only BASIC trainings. The announcements must come
from the group, not the trainers. This express exception continues.
Are the posts 'moderated'?
As much as possible, I try to leave the listServe on 'unmoderated', so that
whenever anyone sends a message to CollabLaw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, it just goes out
to everyone on the list. Increasingly, though, as our numbers have grown and
infections have proliferated, I have had the listServe on full 'moderation.'
What that means is that every post to the listServe requires my approval. I do
NOT look to edit what anyone says; I don't look to 'censor' comments. I'm
mostly just trying to keep us safe. Which leads us to....
Who receives what I send?
The listServe is nearing 1000 people. Whenever a message is sent to
CollabLaw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, it goes to EVERYONE on the list. That is also true
every time you hit 'Reply' to a message that you received from the listServe -
EVERYONE gets it. So try to keep that in mind when you are wanting to only say
something to the person who sent the message; always double check your "To:"
field before hitting "Send". [My having to approve message posts has had the
side benefit of having allowed me to save some folks from embarrassing public
posts.....and several that would have been breaches of client privilege.... ]
Can I share the posts I receive?
This listServe is maintained as a private means of communication. By
joining you are agreeing that YOU DO NOT have permission to share ANY of the
comments made here with anyone who is not on the listServe. If you would like
to do so, you MUST request the permission of the author of each such comment.
Who can join the listServe?
The listServe is open to anyone with a genuine interest in working in or
currently working in the application of Collaborative Practice in any realm.
It is not for the simply curious. Those interested in participating must
request to join using the steps outlined below. on the home page for this
group. http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/CollabLaw/info Just send them that ;
link to request to join. I've made it as easy as Yahoo will let me while still
seeking to maintain some sense of a "safe container". Make sure to tell them
to read and follow all the steps outlined there; especially regarding the 'data
form'. Please note that I have NO ability to simply 'add' someone to the list.
The listServe is NOT open to anyone who wishes to use it as free mailing
list. See Rule 2 above.
How does someone join the listServe?
Here's the steps:
USING THE address from which you will be
sending any posts or replies,
send an EMPTY email - no subject, no content - to:
CollabLaw-subscribe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Next Steps
1- Within a few minutes you should receive a message from Yahoo Groups asking
you to:
"Please confirm your request to join CollabLaw" [check your spam/junk folders
if you don't see it after about 5 minutes]
Simply click "reply" and "send".
2- After you've done that, and as soon as I am able, you should receive a
message from CollabLaw Moderator asking you to:
complete and send a "COLLABLAW data form" to cpchicago+lstsrv@xxxxxxxxx
[I use it to confirm that you are a real person connected to Collaborative
Practice. And to introduce you to the group.]
You should also receive a set of "monthlyQs" that will tell you a bit about how
the group operates.
3- Once you've forwarded that data form, I will review it as soon as I'm able
[I try to get to them at least once a week. If it takes longer than a week,
feel free to ask me about it. If you did this just 'yesterday'â¦..well, be
prepared to be ignored. ;-) LOL]
Why a listServe?
I started this listServe in November of 2000 to help a group of about 40
CP professionals mostly from Illinois and Wisconsin to stay in touch following
a 'meeting' we had in Chicago. Others heard about it and asked to join in the
discussions. And so it has grown over all these years to approaching 1000
members.
Even in this new day of LinkedIn Groups, of Facebook pages, of Twitter
feeds, of online discussion boards..... the listServe continues and grows.
Though I participate in all of those others, I continue to believe that "the
listServe" holds a unique place and serves its purpose in a different, maybe
more intimate, way than the others. I hope you find value in it. And continue
to add your own value to it.
Responsibilities.....
From it's inception, this has been a one-man operation. That's important
to note because sometimes people think of this as the "IACP listServe". It is
not. As an early Board member, I have much love and respect and support for
the IACP. Anyone who values this humble undertaking and praises IACP for it is
more than welcome to do so. However, any criticism of it, or complaints of how
it is 'run', must be directed solely at me. Thanks for bringing yourself and
your thoughts to this 'community'.
