Many of you have already heard of the upcoming Sacred Activism Weekend:
Building a Wisdom Culture in Asheville, presented by Wisdom University and
featuring Andrew Harvey and Jim Garrison, authors and spiritual activists.
This is your invitation to participate in a powerful role.
This interactive weekend will bring together the wisest and most sacred
practices available with practical hands-on-social activism. The goal of the
weekend is to create new ways to make our community more sustainable,
participative, and democratic-and more fun to live in, while preserving a
good way of life for our children and grandchildren. Any and all areas of
our social, political, religious, spiritual and cultural life are up for a
systematic discussion.

The goal of the weekend is to create new ways to make our lives more
authentic, integrated, and passionate. There will be specially designed
sessions to empower group visioning and interaction. The purpose is to build
community. So long as we remain alone, the looming crises of humanity keep
us fearful, discouraged and isolated. Only together can we transform our
lives and change our world.
The Sacred Activism Coalition, led by Barry and Janae Weinhold, is laying
the groundwork for a weekend that inspires action and transformation. In
this weekend, you will be empowered to reach for your heart's desire, you
will connect as community, and you will be inspired to take effective action
that will transform your lives and the lives of those you touch. The space
accommodates around 300 and we are expecting to sell out.
We're looking for 30 facilitators for the weekend. Facilitators MUST
--be available for the weekend and register at the regular $75 rate AND
--attend a training on the afternoon of February 10, 2007.
The February 10 training will focus on an introduction to the new paradigm
approach of appreciative inquiry (AI). Appreciative inquiry is a powerful
approach that builds on strengths, focuses on what works, and gives and

Our trainer will be Sallie Lee, an Asheville native and internationally
known AI trainer who is also earning a Masters degree at Wisdom University.
An example of Sallie's work was a training in Nicaragua where 500 people
gathered for a dialogue on building civil society. It was a relatively new
democracy and there were few models for being full-fledged participants in
the political system. Some of the diverse participants were on opposite
sides of the civil war and many people felt powerless about their ability to
make a difference in their country. A two day AI/Open Space workshop led to
many wonderful forms of participation including a 100,000 person peaceful
march in Managua a few months later.
This training is an amazing opportunity. If Sallie were charging for our
training, she would charge at least $500 per person. (It isn't unusual for a
professional AI weekend training to run $1,800 or more.) In exchange for
your agreement to facilitate, the appreciative inquiry training will be
free.
The weekend will be amazing and, as a facilitator, you will be a participant
in its creation.
Please reply to me no later than February 1 to say that you are interested
in being a facilitator. Location of the February 10 training will be
announced to participants.
