Congratulations and welcome!
If at all possible, attend the IACP forum in Toronto in October. You will
learn so much and the excitement and energy is contagious. Read everything
you can about the collaborative process and reach out to collaborative
professionals for help. I am happy to help in any way I can (contact info
below). Above all, please do not get discouraged!! This is happening and
it will happen. Our practice group watched the movie Divorce Corp. in our
last meeting. While not a direct endorsement of collaborative practice and
probably exaggerated in areas, it definitely shines a light on what can
happen in court. The truism take-away: once you are in court, the control
is out of your hands.

I am pleased to be joining the list serve and hope to learn a lot from the
members. Out state does not yet use the collaborative law model, though
legislators and the courts encourage mediation. Several mediators have
opened up shop but seem to be having a rough time of it (from comments in
the communities).
I plan to take the 40 hour Mosten mediation training next January. If any
of you have other courses you would recommend, I would be happy to hear of
them. I missed the Illinois training offered by Rosten and mosti in Chicago
- apparently the NRA Convention, two graduations, Mother's Day and a host
of other events made finding a hotel virtually impossible (at least at
reasonable rates).
In any event, the concept is exciting and I hope to see it spread to
Wyoming. Any suggestions will be appreciated. B
