The current issue of the Boston Business Journal contains some great
news about collaborative lawyer Jody Newman, who is a member of the
Board of the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council. A long-time
member of the Council and a former officer of MCLC, Jody has been
elected Managing Partner of her 23-lawyer Boston firm, Dwyer & Collora.
Two things make this news story particularly noteworthy: (a) she is
identified in the article as a "practitioner of 'collaborative law,' a
strategy of resolving disputes without resorting to court action," and
(b) Jody's practice and that of her firm are entirely in the non-family
arena (Jody is one of the leading employment lawyers in Massachusetts)
and her partners are among the most prominent civil litigators in the
