|When I check the default route with /sbin/route -n there is only=20 |one line listed for lo. Nothing for ppp0 After you dial, what is the output of /sbin/ifconfig -a ? Do you see a ppp0 device listed? | Do I need to get DNS server addresses from my ISP? Yes. Put them in /etc/resolv.conf like so: nameserver 192.168.10.10 nameserver 192.168.10.100 etc. Call tech support and they can give you the nameserver addresses. -------------- If the GUIs don't work, an easy way to get the modem configured and get on the internet is to use wvdial. (You may need to install the rpm.) Log on as root. Type wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf edit /etc/wvdial.conf and put in the number to dial, your username and = password. This should also create a file = /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0. Then to get on the internet (still as root) enter=20 wvdial Test to see a ppp0 connection from /sbin/ifconfig -a and the routes from /sbin/route -n . lynx http://216.239.39.99/ means your own the internet. lynx http://www.google.com means the names are being resolved. wvdial doesn't work all the time but it's so easy it might be worth a = try. There are lots of ppp scripts on the internet if wvdial doesn't work. Make sure your username doesn't require some prefix like ELN/username for earthlink or something like that. hth, lp -------------------------------------------------------------------- Cochise Linux Users Group Mailing List - cochiselinux@xxxxxxxxxxxxx For more information: http://www.cochiselinux.org To unsubscribe: //www.freelists.org/list/cochiselinux
