La imprevista e intensa propagación de la pandemia de la enfermedad del
coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) en la Región de las Américas ha expuesto y
amplificado dramáticamente la presencia de desigualdades e inequidades, una
característica ya prominente en términos de salud ambiental, condiciones
sociales, y económicas en la Región. Junto a ello, es de resaltar el
impacto de la Pandemia en el sostenimiento de cuidados e intervenciones
esenciales, acerca de lo que existe evidencia que muestra importantes
disrupciones. Existe evidencia acerca del impacto en términos
socioeconómicos profundo y diferencial a corto y largo plazo, junto con el
impacto directo en el acceso y calidad de atención, particularmente en
recién nacidos, con consecuencias potencialmente graves para la salud de
las poblaciones y, sobre todo, para la distribución equitativa de las
oportunidades de salud y el bienestar de todas las edades. Tal situación
tiene implicancias relevantes en el Objetivo 3 de la Agenda 2030 para el
desarrollo sostenible, basado en la promesa de no dejar a nadie atrás. En
este seminario virtual, el quinto de la Serie sobre COVID-19, los Objetivos
de Salud de los ODS y la Equidad, se discutirán aspectos relacionados con
la salud neonatal antes y después de la pandemia.

The unforeseen and intense spread of the 2019 coronavirus disease pandemic
(COVID-19) in the Region of the Americas has dramatically exposed and
amplified the presence of inequalities and inequities, a prominent feature
in terms of environmental health, social and economic conditions in the
Region. Along with this, it is worth highlighting the impact of the
Pandemic on the sustainability of essential care and interventions, for
which there is evidence of significant disruptions. There is evidence of
the deep and differential socioeconomic impact in the short and long term,
together with the direct impact on access and quality of care, particularly
in newborns, with potentially serious consequences for the health of
populations and, above all, for the equitable distribution of health and
the well-being opportunities of all ages. Such situation has relevant
implications for Goal 3 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,
based on the promise to leave no one behind. In this webinar, the fifth in
the Series on COVID-19, the SDG Health Goals and Equity, aspects related to
neonatal health before and after the pandemic will be discussed.
