Dear colleagues,
You are all invited to the next meeting of the Groningen Hebrew Bible and
Ancient Judaism Seminar (2019-2020), which will take place *Thursday 20
February 2020, 16.00*, Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, room 125.
We are very pleased to have a lecture by *prof. dr. Boaz Zissu* (Bar-Ilan
University), Archaeological Explorations at Horvat Qasra, Southern Israel:
Inventio Loca Sancta and the Cult of Holy Salome. A short summary of the
lecture is attached to this mail.
Dr. Boaz Zissu is a Professor of Archaeology in the Department of the Land
of Israel and Archaeology at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. He received his
Ph.D, Summa Cum Laude, from the Hebrew University in 2002 (titled: “Rural
Settlement in the Judaean Hills and Foothills from the Late Second Temple
Period to the Bar Kokhba Revolt”). Dr. Zissu accomplished his postdoctoral
studies, through a Rothschild Fellowship, in Ancient History and
Mediterranean Archaeology, at University of California at Berkeley, USA,
and thereafter at the Calgary Institute for the Humanities, University of
Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dr. Zissu conducted archaeological excavations
and surveys in Jerusalem and the Judaean countryside. He has published six
books and more than 250 articles concerning Judaea and its material culture
during the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine Periods.
