I got to the parking lot at 830a (which is unusual for me). I was actually
ready to get in my kayak a little before 9a and Peter was already in the water
and Joe was just getting in. But it was too hot for the Tulik so i ran back to
the truck and changed. It was still before 9 and then i realized i forgot my
skirt. So, alas it was 9:03 as i paddled out to join Joe and Peter. The Red
Small Craft Advisory flag was up so we opted to take a paddle in the harbor
today. It was sunny and warm and windy. The wind seemed to be pushing us down
in to the harbor and we enjoyed seeing the boats and seals. I did not see any
jelly fish today. Joe and I talked about his upcoming trip to Florida to help
his daughter with the installation of her artwork in a newly remodeled Hard
Rock Cafe/Hotel and Peter and I chatted about his meeting with a Tikki God.
Joe brought oranges and American Airline crackers and we had a nice rest and
snack. We paddled just past the new condos and decided to turn back. The wind
seemed to have calmed a little. There were a few paddlers out in kayaks (no
SUP’s today) including a very sleek tandem kayak.
Peter was cooling off and was splashing some water up onto the deck of his
kayak and was looking down and passed very close to a sleeping seal and woke up
the seal and that woke all of us up! The seal gave him a look but did not move
off of the dock.
We paddled under the dock ramps by the abandoned Lobster Trap restaurant where
there are still table clothes and salt shakers on the tables and cut across the
harbor. The wind seems to have shifted and was helping us along back to the
beach. According to my Apple Watch, we paddled 3.9 miles this morning. All in
all, it was a very enjoyable paddle on a sunny but windy day at the Channel
Islands Harbor. And that is how it was on this 17th day of November, 2019.
