Car Seat Safety Education
Car Seat Safety Education for Professionals and Families
North Suburban Medical Center is pleased to announce the launch of a new series
of Child Safety Education workshops. Parents, Caregivers and Educators will be
offered “Baby on the Go” learning sessions that are customized for each group.
Currently certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians and Instructors will be
offered Continuing Education Sessions that are pre-authorized for continuing
education units and can be applied toward recertification.
The courses will be taught by Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructors
from the Child Safety Division of Nourish Family Center. The 3 Instructors,
Vera Fullaway, Camie Wewer and Mike Medhurst bring their vast expertise and
knowledge to the newly developed courses. Detailed course descriptions are

Health One Employees may attend the first series of courses at a discounted
rate, North Suburban Medical Center employees can attend free of charge.

Course Descriptions:
Baby on the Go for Parents and Caregivers (The need to know class for car
seats) at North Suburban
Recommended for parents, grandparents and all caregivers. Participants of this
interactive class will learn about the steps needed in making the correct
choice in choosing the car seat for the family vehicle and using their child’s
car seat correctly in the car and on-the-go.
This class is held at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton in the
Education Rooms by the Cafeteria. (This class is not held at Nourish Family
Center.)
Baby on the Go for Educators and Medical Staff
This interactive course is specifically targeted to occupations that educate
parents in a professional capacity and could be held liable for misinformation.
The course is recommended for all educators of parents: medical office staff,
hospital staff, doulas, lactation consultants, nursing staff, Baby Safe
Instructors, CPR instructors, EMS personnel - virtually any professional
occupation/personnel not currently certified in Child Passenger Safety.
This course will enhance the educator’s ability to convey the most current
recommendations to parents and parents-to-be. Among the topics that will be
presented and discussed are current recommendations and research from the
American Academy of Pediatrics, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and numerous safety experts. Additionally,
since making the correct choice in obtaining the correct child restraint for
each family is a critical component in protecting children, many specific
features of child restraints will be discussed to assist the educator in
addressing specific needs of their audience. Liability issues for those working
in professional capacities with also be covered.

Continuing Education Session for CPS Technicians and Instructors
Preauthorized by Safe Kids Worldwide, this session will update currently
certified CPS Technicians and Instructors on the most current child restraint
technology, trends in child passenger safety products and recommendations,
current and future research and many additional topics. Instructors will be on
hand to verify installation for Technicians needing to be signed-off for
recertification.
The CEUs earned in these sessions are valid throughout the participant’s entire
certification cycle and may be obtained at any time during the 2 year
certification cycle.
The course is taught by Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructors from the
Child Safety Division of Nourish Family Center. The three Instructors, Vera
Fullaway, Camie Wewer and Mike Medhurst bring their vast expertise and
knowledge to the newly developed courses.
