Insurance Verification Specialist
Patient Accounting

* 8 hour days, 8a - 4:30p; 1.0 FTE

Job Summary:
Works under the direct supervision of the Billing Coordinator and Patient
Accounts Manager. Performs insurance verification activity. Validates certain
demographic and financial data. Determines the existence and extent of all
insurance benefits claimed by patients presenting for types of service
including , but not limited to the following: In-Patient, Out-Patient Surgery,
ATU, E.D., Radiology (MRI,CT, MPI, MRA), Rehab Services, Sleep Center,
Mammography Center (Bone Density Tests) and any other service deemed to be high
dollar, and repetitive in nature. Determines the extent of patients''
responsibility to pay. Evaluates patients for Medicaid and/or Charity
consideration. Adds or edits information in the Affinity or Misys system.
Performs other activities as directed by management.
Minimum Education/Training:
High school diploma
Registration/Certification or License Required:
n/a
Preferred Education:
Associates degree in business / accounting / customer service, or related field.
Preferred Experience:
Several years of previous billing and/or collections experience, preferably in
a health care setting.
Management Experience (If applicable):
n/a
Physical Requirements:
Sitting at one time tolerance of 2 hours; carrying 10 pounds infrequently up to
30 feet; frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling.
Other Requirements:
Must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Internet Explorer, Word and Excel.
Knowledge of Microsoft Access and PowerPoint desirable.
Additional Qualifications for this Requisition:
MUST POSSESS ABOVE AVERAGE SKILLS IN MICROSOFT EXCEL AND WORD, AND USE OF THE
INTERNET.
PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN HEALTHCARE INSURANCE VERIFICATION, EITHER IN A HOSPITAL OR
PHYSICIAN'S OFFICE, OR, RECENT GRADUATE OF A HEALTHCARE/MEDICAL BILLING
SPECIFIC STUDY COURSE IS REQUIRED
