We certainly do trust you, Abbott! As far as I'm concerned, not having a
hand-out will be just fine.
See you at the movies.

Hi Joel et.al.
As regards to my participation at the screening of World Of Apu, I can offer this: I will be more than happy to do a quick introduction of the film, with back story about both Pather Panchali and Aparajito on both Saturday and Sunday screenings. The idea of a handout suggested by Lea was a good one, but I got no feedback about that, and I don't have the time nor the knowhow to print such a thing myself. Nevertheless, I'm sure my live comments will suffice. On Saturday I'll be there to pick up on a brief Q&A afterwards - all of this necessarily brief, as I understand it, since APU is one of our longer films. On Sunday I will try to stay again - though something might come up that would mean I'd not be there after the screening. I'm sure someone else could field Q&A on Sunday. And I've been too busy to approach Nikki Singh - no one weighed in on that suggestion - and I expect she'll be away in any event.
It'll be fine. Huge. Trust me. I know. I know how to do it. VV Abbott

spring evenings
Well, we are two days away from the screening of our first film
“BOUNCE!”. Are you excited? I am. I contacted David McLain a
couple of weeks ago. At that point he had not been summoned away
to a work assignment and was still planning to be with us. I think
we have been doing a pretty good job in promoting our series and,
specifically, promoting his appearance this coming Sunday. The
CINEMA EXPLORATIONS FB page has posted a short video about his
sense of calling to do the work that he does. I will be contacting
him for a final check on his appearance—his plans and
expectations. If you haven’t seen it, I certainly would recommend
it. We have ordered the bagels and will be bringing those up on
Saturday as usual.
*Shannon*: Typically, we have made arrangements for a meal with
our guest either at Buen Apetito or Grand Central Café, but Grand
Central Café is closed on Sundays and Buen Apetito doesn’t open on
Sundays until 4:00 pm. Obviously, an invitation for lunch (should
it be accepted) would need to be for another establishment. Do you
have any suggestions?
*Bill*: Are you all set for the discussion/program around “PEACE
OFFICER” ? Are there going to be any guest contributors?
*Abbott*: How are things going in the preparation for a discussion
on “THE WORLD OF APU” ? There was a suggestion that a hand-out
providing some background on the trilogy and helping people to
understand what had previously transpired in Apu’s story might be
helpful. Are you planning to do that?
*Shannon*: We have Kyle Stevens set for “HITCHCOCK/TRUFFAUT,” but
my recall is that we were still trying to find possible special
guests to contribute to our discussions for “JAFAR PANAHI’S TAXI”
and “DUKHTAR (DAUGHTER)”.
We have discussed having a couple of additional screenings after
our Saturday/Sunday morning film series in the spring. Shannon
provided dates of film events already on the schedule and those
are below. I would suggest that we could have a one-night
screening of a film during the second week of April (Tuesday,
April 12^th ; Wednesday, April 13^th ; or Thursday, April 14^th )
and have another one-night screening the first week of May
(Tuesday, May 3^rd ; Wednesday, May 4^th ; or Thursday, May 5^th
). I don’t know if it matters to the theater which weekday evening
we would take. Since we were not able to integrate any current
Foreign-language Oscar submissions into our schedule, this would
be a good opportunity to rectify that. Here is a link to a listing
of all the submissions with many having trailers and information
about US distribution (however, this information is not completely
accurate. For example, Romania’s “AFERIM” is distributed by Big
World Pictures and Spain’s “LOREAK (FLOWERS)” is distributed by
Music Box Films. This can be quite fluid):

Here is an article predicting who will receive nominations from
those films that were selected for the Foreign-language Oscar
shortlist. The predictions don’t matter as they are likely to not
be fully accurate. However, it is likely that Ken would be
interested in showing the nominees whichever ones get nominated
and those on the shortlist are still in play for getting a
nomination. We will know the nominees in a couple of weeks. Since
“THEEB” already showed during MIFF, we probably should pass on that.

This would also be a good opportunity to show “THE GOLDEN DREAM”
which we liked a lot when we screened it during the fall.
Does anyone have any suggestions—either from the list of
Foreign-language Oscar submissions or something else—for showing
during the spring.

*Subject:* [cinemaexp] Promo Materials at the cinema; dates for
spring evenings
Greetings, all! The CinEx posters, programs and all access passes
are available at Railroad Square Cinema for pick up and
distribution. We will be mailing a copy of the program to each of
our members this week as well.
Stay tuned for the press release!
In terms of evening events in the spring, we currently have
special events on the following dates, so these would be out. We
are also planning to add at least 2 or 3 other events in April for
Earth Day, Sexual Assault Prevention Awareness Month, and a
special screening with Colby’s Oak Institute, so it will get even
a bit more crowded. May is pretty wide open, though...
