In case you had any other ideas about what is going on, I am catching up on the
clutter in my e-mail mail box. Here is a message from KimStim which batches all
of their releases over the next few months. KimStim was the distributor for
“GENESIS 2.0” which we considered, but ultimately decided against including in
our series this year. Alice and I saw “TOO LATE TO DIE YOUNG” at last year’s
TIFF. We both liked it, but it is a slice of life film that some may feel is
somewhat unfocused since it follows quite a number of characters. Another film
that showed at TIFF which we didn’t see, but I think could be intriguing is
“WHAT YOU GONNA DO WHEN THE WORLD IS ON FIRE?” This is quite current and
touches on a contemporary hot-button issue—race in America. The Chinese film
“AN ELEPHANT SITTING STILL” was also at TIFF and has gotten lots of accolades,
but unfortunately it is 234 minutes long. I don’t know much about the other
films, but there may be a gem or two that we should not overlook.
