Thanks for the info. Lance. The restaurant group as a whole seems to be doing
well lately, but here are a few follow-up thoughts.
* Although the restaurants have been doing well relative to the broader
market (CMG, WEN, MCD), here is some information I discovered that just came
out on August 30th: "Industry estimates indicate that U.S. fast-food chains and
restaurants are experiencing annual employee turnover rates as high as 150%,
according to CNBC. That means that some restaurants are losing all of their
employees and then some of the ones hired to replace those workers. The average
cost of employee turnover is estimated to be $2,000 per individual, according
to the National Restaurant Association." (Source: First Trust Advisors, 'Market
Watch', Week of Sept. 2nd.)
* The above doesn't specifically point out Chipotle, but just something to
keep an eye on.
* Given that September can be a weaker month for stocks, my personal
feeling is to wait and see if CMG pulls back a bit for a buy-in. The 20 day
moving average (MA) is currently around 825, 50 day MA around 787 and 20 week
MA about 748. If the SPX falls below the 200 day moving average, I might
re-evaluate this. Also, Chipotle earnings are on October 22, 2019, which could
create short-term volatility in either direction.
As Lance pointed out, I am also just an individual investor, not a financial
advisor or consultant. I am just sharing my personal thoughts/information on
CMG and the market.
