Sightings
11 Humpbacks
500 Common Dolphin
1 Mola Mola
This was the first day this year that we’ve left in sunshine- a shirtsleeve
day!
After leaving the harbor, we proceeded west. We encountered several medium
sized pods of common dolphin, and 1 Mola Mola, before finding, and spending
some quality time with, a mother calf pair of humpbacks, with others nearby.
Proceeded further west, past platform Holly, almost to platform Hondo, we spent
time with 3-4 more humpbacks before turning for home.
Saw, and spent a little time with 2 more humpbacks shortly after turning for
home, then spotted a breach further offshore.
This whale gave us most of the behaviors; breaching, spy hopping, pec
slapping, and lob tailing.
Thanks to Captain Dave for taking the extra time for the last whale, Second
Captain Devon, and Crew Austin for another great trip.
With me on board were Jim McClure, naturalist, and Don Shubert PID.
Always grateful,
Del Hanson
