Cherry Canyon Trail Update March 15, 2019
Thanks to Ranger Derek on Santa Rosa Island, the lower Cherry Canyon trail has
been cleared (weed wacker?) and is much more passable. The creek was lower and
easier to cross this week and the creek is no longer running down the trail in
the mid-section. The wild flowers were better than last week and totally
amazing.
While the foot bridge across Water Canyon Creek is still missing, the water was
less than a foot deep at the crossing and several day folks made it across to
head to the Torrey Pines area.
Whales, whales, everywhere! We observed a gray or two in the area of Gilda and
Grace on the way out to Santa Rosa. On the way back we observed upwards of
eight to nine grays’ in the gap between Santa Rosa and Santa Cruz. After
stopping at Prisoner’s to pick up folks we observed a humpback and soon after
another gray that repeatedly breached.
Thanks to Capt. Jimmy, Matt, Lindsay, and Joe on Island Adventure for a great
day
