I end my hike at the base of the "climb." There's a great view and I give them
the Chumash/conclusion parts of my speech. Then I tell them they can climb up
to Cavern Point or go to Potato Harbor or go back the way we came. That way
they get the whole hike. I agree it is quite a slog up that hill and
intimidating to some of the people I've had on hikes.
Is it really temporary?
But is sure has been beautiful out there.

Some good thoughts about the challenge. It pops up as a sudden challenge to
them that does not fit the “Moderate” description they read about the hikes. I
shared with hikers it is temporary, in order to regenerate the terrain.

Thanks Paul, You are very right about the part of the trail to Cavern Pt. It is
very difficult for many hikers. I wonder if it could be modified with a
switchback to the right ? Bill Wakelee

Hello CINC Collegues,
FYI: The new off-limits reclamation areas along the Cavern Pt hike make getting
to the point strenuous for some hikers rather than moderate. The section in
concern comes after the trail half way up the climb from the campground now
veers to the left to join with the Potato Harbor trail. To get to Cavern Pt now
hikers must climb a very steep 100+ yards along the ridge which is strenuous
for many. The climb toward Potato Harbor is easier for those that see the climb
to the point is not doable for them .
When I made a solo stop for lunch overlooking Scorpion Anchorage, the two huge
Ravens that followed us stayed with me. They did not beg for food, just shared
their company with me even as they privately romanced! As you see, one of them
is clearly tagged. Who needs to be notified about the observation of these
tags? This one was clearly #14. My most comm on question in the VC later that
day was about tagged Ravens! I could explain the Bald Eagle Orange and Blue
tags but not these? Cheers, Paul
