It was a sparkly day on the ocean!
I knew it would be, with blue skies, a little fog blanket sitting further out
towards the islands, and surprisingly
calm seas, after Thursday’s clouds and rain. We were riding the diamonds.
A few smaller groups of common dolphins going out.
Risso’s dolphins - seemed to be feeding on squid with the sea lions.
The bright point of my day, was a large group of about 250-300 offshore bottle
nose dolphins. I don’t think I ever had such good looks, looking down into
the water with no marine layer reflect-back. Such large powerful
animals.
And two humpbacks spotted at the last minute on our way back across the
channel! Looked to be a mother
and calf. They were moving around a lot, but we got some good looks.
Capt. Dave saw a gray whale coming out near the harbor, but it was not to be
seen again.
